Adding barcodes to your products


Prior to using barcode to select products in transactions, you will need to assign them to your products. Adding a barcode to a product can be done while creating a new product or editing your existing products.

Creating or Editing Products:

Click in the Barcode field and scan the barcode with your scanner, then save your product.


Note: erplain does not generate barcodes but you can use the existing barcodes already on your products or create new ones using an online barcode generator like Tec-it.

Adding barcodes to your products with variants

If you are using variants, you will need to assign the barcode to the variants. Adding a barcode to a variant can be done while creating variants from a new product form or adding/editing a variant once the products have been created.

Open the product and click on the variant edit button:

Click in the Barcode field and scan the barcode with your scanner, then save your product:

Once you have assigned barcodes to your products or variants, you can add them to your transactions (Invoices, POs, Stock entries, ....) directly with a barcode scanner.


For example, in an Invoice:


Step 1: While you are selecting products for your invoice, click on the "Scan" button:


Step 2: A new window will open on your screen. You can now scan your products' barcodes. If this barcode is assigned to a product in erplain, it will be added in the list. You can scan the barcode multiple times, the quantity will increase. You can also scan one time and update the quantity on the right side.



Step 3: Click on "Close" to return to the invoice.


If you are using Batch numbers for traceability, you can also use the scanner to select Batch IDs in your documents.

Adding barcodes to your batches
Adding a barcode to a batch can be done while Creating a batch or Editing / adding new batches.

While creating a batch, click in the Barcode field and scan:

Adding batches to your transactions using a barcode scanner works exactly the same as adding products. You can add batches with a scanner to your existing and new documents including sales orders, invoices, purchase orders, stock entries and stock movements.


For example, in a sales order:

From your transaction simply click on "Scan" button:


A new window will open on your screen. You can now scan your batches' barcodes, if this barcode is assigned to a batch ID, the product and the batch will be added to your transaction:
